Kinderfeets Balance Bike Review – Results of our Test Rides

kinderfeet info

Some kids love to ride through puddles, while others avoid the mud like the plague.  Some love their bikes, with others are hesitant.  In the world of balance bikes, most bikes are designed for the rough and ready kids, but Kinderfeets in an exception.  While strong and durable, the Kinderfeets adds a unique level of interaction and a write-able, “design-your-own” bike chalkboard surface.  Made with quick growing birch wood, the Kinderfeets balance bikes are also eco-friendly.  For every tree that is harvested to make Kinderfeets another tree is planted in its place.

Frame & Durability

Kinderfeets build
kinderfeets damage

While wood bikes have their limitations, overall were we impressed with the build of the bike.  The construction of this bike easily allows young children to quickly climb on and off through the low cut frame and is light enough for even a young child to hold it up. The saddle style seat is comfortable and very supportive and has a removable and washable seat pad.  Like all wood bikes, however, the Kinderfeets does have a turning limiter and the seat is a challenge to adjust, requiring an Allen wrench and the removable and reinsertion of two bolts. The wood construction of the bikes also makes the bike ideal for indoor and outdoor use.  One parent testers, whose four-year-old suffers from anxiety as a result of poor eye sight, loved being able to allow her daughter to get comfortable with the bikes indoors before heading outdoors.  The Kinderfeets airless rubber tires did not damage indoor floors and its handle bars are capped with a foam covering to protect walls.  Once outside however, the wood frame did quickly become scratched, but not to the point of being unsafe.

Artists at Work

Unique to Kinderfeets, the chalkboard panels on the Kinderfeets were a huge draw for all types of kids.  Available in six different colors, the Kinderfeets is certainly the most customizable bikes on the market.  When used with our anxious four-year-old tester, the panels allowed her mom to introduce her to balance bikes in a subtle yet comfortable way.  After first coloring on the bike, she slowly built up the courage to pick it up and then eventually to get on and with some time, was soon cruising down the street.

Kinderfeet in Use

Kinderfeets ride

The Kinderfeet provided a smooth and comfortable ride for our testers.  With a minimum seat height of 13″ and a maximum of 16″, we found it to comfortably fit two-year-olds through smaller four-year-olds.  The wood foot pegs of the Kinderfeets were non-obstructive and well-liked by kids, but were not used as often as we anticipated. As shown in the video below, the maximum seat height of 16″ makes for a tight fit for older/taller kids, so be sure to measure your child’s inseam before purchasing.

Kinderfeets in Comparison

Compared to other top selling balance bikes, the Kinderfeets is about average sized.  While it is bigger than the Strider, it is about the same size as the Burley.
