Full Review

Delta Cycle’s Leonardo Single Bike Storage hook and tray is an affordable, simple, easy-to-install, and easy-to-use option for hanging bikes. It comes in different sizes (regular and XL) and two colors to suit your bike’s tires and your style preference.

 How it Works

The Delta Leonardo is a simple system. You mount a hook to the wall that supports the bike’s front tire. The hook is solid, hefty steel covered by a rubberized sleeve to protect your bike’s spokes and rim. You then mount the rear tire tray to the wall to prevent your tires from scuffing the paint.

The Leonardo is available with or without the rear tire tray. We love the idea of keeping our walls cleaner, but as you can see in the image below, I actually scuffed the wall with the top tire quite a bit while lowering and raising the bike from the hook. Short story – with most vertical bike storage systems, you have to be quite careful to not scuff your walls – even if you have a rear tire tray.

The hooks on their own are less than $20, which is a really affordable option in the world of bike storage. And they really can be installed almost anywhere (as long as you’re mounting it to a stud). Because you’re only dealing with very minimal hardware and a single hook at a time, they can be mounted on small wall areas to maximize space. We mounted ours on a 37″ space of wall between our garage door and a round window that prevented us from mounting a track system there.

The original Leonardo is the silver and red version seen below, but Delta recently came out with a solid black hook and tray.

Capacity and Fit

Each hook has a maximum load of 40 pounds and can accommodate tires up to 2.5″ wide. For fat bike tires up to 5″, you can get the XL Leonardo Hook & Tray which has a weight capacity of 50 pounds. From balance bikes to kids bikes to adult bikes, the Leonardo can store them all.

If you use the system with the tire tray, you’ll need to be consistent with the size of bike you’re storing on that hook. We mounted ours for a 24″ woom 5 bike, which has a tire tray placement that obviously wouldn’t work for a balance bike (much shorter) or adult bike (much longer).

Installation

With just two simple pieces to mount and all the hardware you need included, installation takes about 10 minutes max. First you drill holes in the stud, and then mount the back plate of the hook on the stud centerline with the included screws. After hanging the bike to determine the rear tray placement, you remove the adhesive on the back of the tray and stick it to the wall – no drilling required for the tire tray.

Bottom Line

An affordable option for storing one or several bikes, we love the Leonardo Single Bike hook’s simplicity in installation and use, and its versatility for different size bikes.
